Aesthetics of Food
EXTRA POMME DE TERRE-ESSTRIAL
When I gave myself a mission of finding an “ugly” piece of food, I was well aware that ugliness is subjective and that I, personally, rarely find a piece of food to be ugly per se. Sweet potatoes are rough around the edges, often come dirty, and compared to other veg, its fair to say they’re on the uglier side. They are, however, beautiful in their versatility and flavor. I knew I wanted to highlight their “inner beauty”, and came up with the idea of photo-shooting these vegetables as if they were pieces of art.
I used my Lightbox and a (dramatic) light-setup to give these beauties a photoshoot, highlighting their extra-ordinary textures and detailed surfaces, ultimately transforming them into moon rocks and mountainous terrains in the process.
